Flying By

October 30th, 2013

It’s hard to believe that this weekend is the last regular season game of the year. This year has really flown by and it’s been a great season so far. Heading into Saturday’s 1 p.m. home game vs. Seton Hall, we are in great shape for postseason play, however we still need a result to ensure a top 2 finish and therefore a first round bye in the BIG EAST Tournament. From the Desk of Kevin Kelly

October 30th, 2013

I wanted to thank everyone who came out to Saturday’s game, including all of the Georgetown student-athletes and coaches who attended the Gridiron Club’s tailgate prior to the game. It was a nice turnout and we all appreciate your support. I also wanted to extend a thank you to Bruce Simmons who organized the event, bringing together all of the student-athletes who were not also competing on Saturday. Continue reading

A Shutout Record

October 29th, 2013

Marquette has established itself as one of the top teams in the country, and I feel they have the best team this year of any I’ve coached against. With the prize being first place in the Big East with two games to play, the table was set for another Georgetown and Marquette classic. I don’t think it disappointed. Continue reading

A Businesslike Performance

October 25th, 2013

The midweek match up with DePaul turned into a comfortable three points, as the boys put in a businesslike performance to come away with a 6-0 win. While not the best soccer we played all year, we were patient against a team that tried to sit in and make spaces compact. Continue reading

Back From the Shutdown

October 24th, 2013

After three weeks off the water due to the government shutdown, the Hoyas got back in boats in Boston at the Head of the Charles and on the Potomac this past weekend. The shutdown kept us busy training indoors and busing to the Anacostia on the weekends. Continue reading

On the Water with Mike Callahan

October 24th, 2013

The Navy Fall Regatta is the biggest college sailing event of the fall season. Twenty of the best teams in the country competed in four divisions and it was a tremendous win for the Hoyas in a very competitive regatta. Continue reading

Into the Home Stretch

October 23rd, 2013

As we head into the home stretch of fall ball, I wanted to send out an update from the Hilltop. The highlight thus far was at the Navy Tournament when the Hoyas took on Team USA. Despite the weather, the Hoyas played with tremendous energy and gave the US all it could handle. Continue reading

A Great Response

October 22nd, 2013

As a coach, it’s always interesting to see how a team responds to a loss. Another loss can be seen as the beginning of a slump, and a win can be a sign of resilience. After we had to marinate in a loss for a full week, the boys responded with arguably our best performance of the season. Continue reading

Back to Business

October 22nd, 2013

While we still hope to catch Marquette with two games remaining, we are determined to finish in the top two which will put us straight into the Big East Tournament Semifinals. We continue to receive national respect in the soccer polls and currently sit # 6 in the NCAA RPI. Continue reading

Another autumn in Washington on the river is upon us. All squads got off to a good start as upperclassmen and men and women’s recruits reported ready to go and the on-campus recruiting of freshmen produced very good results. While the quantity and quality of athletes new to the sport are strong, there’s a lot of teaching still to do. Continue reading
