New Year’s Day began our conference games in the newly reorganized BIG EAST. We earned an early win and two drops (in overtime), so it’s looking good overall. The team is really looking forward to the BIG EAST Tournament in March, but first we must work through our schedule with more than a month of competitions to get us tournament ready—I’m looking at a slow, steady, solid progression to March.

Senior Andrea White & freshman Natalie Butler are kicking it! Sophomore Katie McCormick is right behind them for another whack! White won her first-career Player of the Week award on December 16 and was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the fourth time this season on January 20. Natalie Butler is the league’s highest scoring freshman and is 5th in the nation for rebounding. Butler is also first among freshmen in national double doubles (she has 14 so far). She was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on December 30 (the fourth Honor Roll award for our squad this season), and continued to accrue a total (so far anyway) of seven Rookie of the Week awards surpassing Sugar Rodgers and tying Rebecca Lobo from UConn for third place as the most all-time!

Fast Break Club Co-President Laura Farina is teaching in the Sports Industry Management graduate program this term—one of our own as faculty! To top it all off, Nadira Ricks was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame at the dinner and ceremony held on January 18.
