Starting Up Fall Practice

September 11th, 2014

We were able to do small group individual teaching and drilling on the field last week. On Friday, we split the squad up into Blue and Gray and scrimmaged for an hour. It is always fun to see the freshman run around with guys three and four years older than them and to see the college game in a full field setting. Continue reading

In the Huddle with Tyler Rudy

September 10th, 2014

As one of three team captains of the 2014 Georgetown men’s soccer team, Tyler Rudy enters his senior season ready to cap off an accomplished career on the Hilltop. In 2013, Rudy appeared in all 21 games with 20 starts and was the fifth-leading scorer on the squad with two game winning goals. His three assists ranked him fourth on the team. Rudy was also one of 24 men’s soccer student-athletes named to the 2013-14 Academic All-BIG EAST Team. Continue reading

Home Cooking

September 10th, 2014

Home cooking is one thing, but getting cooked at home is quite another! Our home opener this past Friday saw the temperature and humidity make it feel over 100 degrees on the field. It didn’t deter a great Hoya Hooligans student group and capacity crowd of close to 2,000 come out to cheer the boys on. Continue reading

Bringing a Trophy Home

September 9th, 2014

The victories on Saturday meant that we were the 2014 Crowne Plaza Philadelphia West Invitational champions! Lauren Saar was named the tournament MVP and Danielle White joined her on the All-Tournament Team. However, the awards should go to everyone in the group. Without all of our players pushing each other in practice daily and supporting each other when the going gets tough, we would not have the success that we have had. Continue reading

Win or Learn

September 9th, 2014

Prior to the game, we were honored to participate in a moment of silence for Chuck Noll, a Dayton alum and football legend who passed away this year. Dayton is a solid program. “Win or Learn” was the message from Brigadier General Sam Nichols to the team in the preseason. There are many things that we will learn from this weekend that will allow us to improve this week in preparation to travel to Marist. Continue reading

Home on the Hilltop

September 9th, 2014

We were fortunate enough to play our first HOME match in seven years on the Hilltop and for the first time ever, our current student-athletes were able to walk out of their locker room and onto their own field. While this is something that may seem simple to most, we are very appreciative of the support from our administration and grateful to our support staff for their help in bringing us back home. Continue reading

Heading on the Road

September 3rd, 2014

On Saturday, we played a good, physical team in Wagner. In spite of the loss, there are definitely some positives to build on. Following the game, I told the team in the locker room that I was proud of their effort. One of our main messages to the team throughout the preseason is to never quit and to always finish. Continue reading

The Total Package

September 3rd, 2014

The players reported for pre-season on August 8 after a busy summer. Eight of our 11 returners participated in summer internship programs, gaining valuable experience for life after Georgetown. That’s no surprise after the work they do in the classroom, earning a 3.508 team GPA. For the sixth time in eight years, we received the AVCA Academic Team Award recognizing teams that have a team GPA of 3.3 or higher across the academic year. In addition, for the second year running, we received the BIG EAST Conference Team Excellence Award in the Sport of Volleyball for our work in the classroom. We set the bar high and it’s so much fun to watch us surpass our goals. Continue reading
