To say that our 3-1 win over #1 UCLA last Monday afternoon was a team effort is an understatement. What does a team effort look like? A sellout crowd at Shaw Field with close to 1,000 students lining the field to give a postseason energy to the game. Continue reading →
The disadvantage of playing a hard schedule is that if you don’t get things just right, you’re likely to lose. The advantage of playing a hard schedule is that you find out a lot about yourself in those games. That certainly held true for our opening weekend in Florida. Continue reading →
The most encouraging sign from preseason thus far is that our primary attacking core of goal scorers consisting of Allen, Muyl, Campbell, McCabe and Basuljevic, are all looking dangerous and scoring goals accounting for all eight of the goals scored during preseason. Hopefully that trend can hold through a long season that starts in earnest on Friday. Continue reading →
The five member senior class of Tomas Gomez, Austin Martz, Jared Rist, Tyler Rudy, and Tom Skelly will leave the Hilltop with some impressive accomplishments. They accumulated an overall record of 57-18-14, which are the most wins and fewest losses of any four year group going through the program. They made the BIG EAST Tournament all four years, won the BIG EAST regular season title twice, and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16, the NCAA Elite 8, and the NCAA National Final. Continue reading →
Spring training has wrapped up for us here on the Hilltop, and our home exhibition against Duke tied it up nicely with a bow. Duke provided a very young, but very athletic and talented matchup for us. While we didn’t play poorly in the first half, we managed to concede two goals on two shots to go into halftime in a hole. The winter season is officially underway with the boys back on campus and back to work. There was plenty of activity with our program over the break, with news and notes aplenty! Contrary to my usual inability to be succinct, I’ll get right to it! Continue reading →
Thanks to all the Hoya soccer fans who supported us throughout the year, and helped make this journey one to remember, and a special thanks to the thousand or so students, who braved the cold and rain to ring Shaw Field on Saturday. Regardless of the result, it was special to see so much of the Georgetown community come out to support the team. Continue reading →
Despite the forecast for some rain on Saturday, the game is already sold out to the general public, for the NCAA Elite 8 match up against Virginia. Thanks to an alumni donation, the UVA game will be broadcast online for free with TV production quality. The broadcast will feature multiple camera angles, replays and, of course, commentary and analysis from our Hoya all-star tandem of Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser. Continue reading →
The capacity crowd, who pushed the boys on all game long, saw junior Keegan Rosenberry rise up on a corner kick, and bury a header to equalize with only ten minutes to play. The swing in momentum gave us new life, and set the stage for the senior heroics in overtime. Rist headed in the game winner for his first career goal, sparking a raucous celebration on Shaw Field. We wrapped up the regular season schedule at Villanova on Friday with a 2-1 win in unusually windy conditions. An early goal from senior Austin Martz got us an early lead, and a late goal from freshman Arun Basuljevic got us the win. We generated some terrific opportunities, particularly over the first 60 minutes, and I was pleased with our attacking sharpness during that stretch of time. Continue reading →
