Part of a Team

Hoyas:
“I’ve made no secrets how important this team is to me and how
badly I want to go back and win a Ryder Cup.”
The above is a recent quote from Keegan Bradley when he was chosen as one of Tom Watson’s Captain Picks for the 2014 USA Ryder Cup team. Just proves the point how excited the PGA Tour players get, when it comes time to be on a TEAM again! Cannot help but think they will reminisce a bit to the days they played intercollegiate golf and the university they represented. Does that bring back memories for you?
Sure hope all of you had a great summer and looking forward to playing fall golf, which may very well be the best time to play. I am happy to share with you the Hoyas are off to a great start! We just competed in the US Naval Academy Invitational and finished 3rd overall. We shot 290-288 (578) and one of our freshmen, Cole Berman (Rosemont, PA – Haverford HS) was medalist with an impressive 69-68 (137), 5 under par performance! The Naval Academy golf course is not an easy golf course and the guys really managed it well. Seems as if every green is on a plateau and flat lies are few and far between on the severely undulated fairways. Patience and good course management is a must in order to score. Senior co-captain Greg Podufal’s 73-71 (+2) was good enough for a top ten finish and freshman Sam Madsen’s 71-75 (+4) finish was 15th overall.
Although we were pleased with our performance, it is already in the past and we have our focus on what lies ahead. This week, we are down in Birmingham, Alabama to compete in The Shoal Creek Invitational hosted by Graeme McDowell and the University of Alabama-Birmingham. The event features defending NCAA Champion Alabama and a host of many top 40 teams in Division I golf – certainly a challenge, yet one we are excited about. From there we will compete at Firestone, one of golf’s storied courses. University of Akron hosts a first-class event with a high-quality field. Our fourth event of the fall will be The Temple Invitational held at Philmont GC outside of Philadelphia and our final event is our own Georgetown Intercollegiate held at our home golf course, The Members Club at Four Streams. We are very proud of our schedule; it features great tests and places us in front of some of the best of the best in intercollegiate golf.
All we have and all we do is simply a result of your generosity and support. Over the years, the Georgetown Golf family has been and will continue to be the resource we are most proud of. We are grateful for all your giving and hope that you will continue to do so. We will always return that favor with giving every shot we hit, 110% of our focus and effort.
The Annual Fund for Georgetown Athletics is embarking on a really neat campaign this year, it’s entitled 110% for Georgetown – take a look.
Please stay in touch with us throughout the fall season and best of luck with your golf and always play the Georgetown Way – “Respect for the Game, Respect for your Opponent.”
