As a sophomore, Aliyah Graves-Brown brings experience to a team under new head coach Shannon Soares. IN 2013, Graves-Brown appeared in all 18 games for the Hoyas and started seven. She finished her freshman year with three assists (three points) and nine shots. In 2014, Graves-Brown has started nine of 10 games and has already eclipsed her 2013 statistics with 3 goals and 3 assists for 9 points.
What is your most memorable moment in your playing career at Georgetown?
“The most memorable moment in my playing career at Georgetown thus far was walking out for our first ever home game on Multi-Sport Field. It was such an amazing feeling to have friends and family be able to watch us play on campus. We’re really dedicated to changing the culture of Georgetown Field Hockey and making the move back to campus was the first step in the right direction. That was a moment I’ll never forget.”
What does “Together, We Are Georgetown” mean to you?
“Together, We Are Georgetown,” to me, indicates a family. My team really embodies that culture in every sense of the word, so I think the phrase extends to the entire athletic department: athletes, administrators, coaches and fans. We all need each other to succeed. Together, We Are Georgetown.”
What made you choose to come to Georgetown?
“I chose Georgetown because it offered everything I was looking for academically, athletically and socially. The education is top notch and as a team, field hockey has a great opportunity to change the culture. There are so many great opportunities and interesting people here. I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.”
How do you give 110% for Georgetown?
“In addition to practices, I give 110% by finding time for individual practices and film sessions with my coaches. I also work with the Grassroots Project, which educates DC youth about HIV/AIDS and serve as an active member of Georgetown SAAC.”
