Against Yale, we learned how good it feels to win in such a large margin (25-11 in set 1), but we must be able to step up our play when someone pushes back. In the record books, this weekend goes down as a loss, but in the grand scheme of what we are trying to do as a team and a program in BIG EAST play, we had some success. Of course, I would have liked a “W.” We’re working on making those happen. Continue reading →

This past weekend, our Lady Hoyas opened up the season at James Madison University with a dominating performance. With strict racing instructions from Coach Mike Smith, our women demonstrated that their national ranking is well-deserved. Some of our women were instructed to race the first mile hard to callous the mind and body to the harder races later in the season. The rest of the women were instructed to go out very easy to build momentum and confidence. Continue reading →
Daphne Corboz is a two-time All-American and was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year in 2013, leading the team with 27 points. Corboz, who was also a unanimous All-BIG EAST First Team selection and a preseason candidate for the Hermann Trophy, scored seven goals and had 13 assists. She missed the first five games of the season with an injury, but was among the most dominating players in the BIG EAST upon her return. Let’s go In the Huddle with Daphne Corboz! Continue reading →

This past weekend we traveled to upstate New York to play Marist College. Our players performed well and we earned our first victory of the season. Coach Luke Thompson, our defensive coordinator, arranged our Friday run-thru at the United States Military Academy. It was a great experience for our players and staff to see and hear about the history of Trophy Point and to tour West Point. A special thanks to Captain Nichols and Lieutenants Kime and Nesbit who conducted the tour. Continue reading →
The players worked hard during pre-season with Dr. Mike Lorenzen, our Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Leadership and Development. In that time, they came up with their mission and what they wanted the season to look like. Of course it falls in line with who we are as Georgetown Volleyball that we work hard and are a competitive team that leaves it all on the floor. We’re seeing that every day at practice from everyone in our gym. Coaches talk about buy in and this group has bought in! Continue reading →
As we go through this season, it’s important to remember that this is a process. Rome wasn’t built in a day and the same goes for Georgetown Field Hockey. However, it’s critical that our players understand just how talented they are and actually believe it. There’s a culture that goes along with winning, an identity that takes ownership of and creates its own momentum. As a staff, we will continue to expect more of ourselves and want more for our student-athletes. Continue reading →
The team looked to rebound against one of the top teams on the west coast on Sunday. UC Irvine, ranked 9th in the country, visited the Hilltop with a beautiful fall afternoon as the backdrop. I felt we came out with a tremendous first half performance, and deservedly went up on another clinical goal by Allen. Continue reading →
UC Irvine, ranked 9th in the country, visited the Hilltop with a beautiful fall afternoon as the backdrop. I felt we came out with a tremendous first half performance, and deservedly went up on another clinical goal by Allen. To UC Irvine’s credit, they produced a very good second half performance to tighten the game up. In a carbon copy of the VCU game, however, we failed to extend our lead, and a counter attack from one of our corner kicks led to a game-tying goal with only about seventeen minutes to play.
