In the Huddle with Nick Alfieri

November 21st, 2014

Senior Captain Nick Alfieri is set to play his final home game on the Hilltop on Saturday vs. Holy Cross and will do so having left a legacy on and off the field. The 2014 Joe Eacobacci No. 35 Memorial Jersey recipient, Alfieri became just the third Hoya to eclipse 300 career tackles. He is third in program history with 322 tackles, trailing only Robert McCabe (407) and Nick Parrish (349), the 2010 No. 35 jersey recipient. Currently he leads the Patriot League in tackles and has been named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week twice in 2014. Let’s go In the Huddle with Nick! Continue reading

Georgetown Athletics Annual Fund

I remember this time of year as a collegiate athlete vividly. Temperatures were changing and Thanksgiving and “home” were right around the corner. But, standing in front of me and that turkey was the NCAA Cross Country Championship meet, which typically was held in the coldest place in the entire country. This always added to the excitement–and nerves. Continue reading

Prepping for Spring

November 21st, 2014

I can’t believe it is November already! Time sure does fly when you are having fun. To date, our fall semester has been very successful. We played six games over the course of two weekends at George Washington, Maryland and UMBC. We went 3-3 and had an opportunity to see our interchangeable parts. I was excited with the performance of our returners and our three freshmen showed that they are ready to make an impact this year. Continue reading

Sending Off Seniors

November 20th, 2014

We are preparing for our final game of the 2014 season. We play Holy Cross on the Hilltop on Saturday at noon. We will again have our “4 for 40” lunch on Friday. We will have a senior day ceremony on Saturday to honor the 21 seniors who have helped to set the foundation for the future of this program. I would personally like to thank our senior class and their parents and families for their tireless work and dedication to establish and advance the Hoya Football culture. Continue reading

Unless you have been hiding under a rock, you will probably have heard by now that we had a successful visit to Morgantown, WV this past weekend for our NCAA First Round match. Facing off against national power #7 West Virginia University, we headed west knowing we would have to battle hard to get a result against the two-time Big 12 Champions. Continue reading

Heading Northeast

November 11th, 2014

We played hard against St. John’s at our place earlier this year and defeated Providence. It’s been a while since we had two wins in a weekend. Listening to the players talk and watching them get after it at practice demonstrate how hungry they are for a weekend sweep. If you are near Queens or Providence, we hope that you’ll come out and lend us your voices. Continue reading

We wrapped up the regular season schedule at Villanova on Friday with a 2-1 win in unusually windy conditions. An early goal from senior Austin Martz got us an early lead, and a late goal from freshman Arun Basuljevic got us the win. We generated some terrific opportunities, particularly over the first 60 minutes, and I was pleased with our attacking sharpness during that stretch of time. Continue reading
