Hoyas Tie Hoosiers & #1 Irish

September 2nd, 2014

Both of these games were against excellent opponents, and had playoff type feels to them. The boys grew up a little more over the weekend as a result, and I’m hoping the experience will serve us well moving forward. After two 110 minute games over the three day span, we’ll spend a couple of days getting our legs back under us to prepare for our home opener against Harvard on Friday. Continue reading

Wrapping Up Preseason

August 27th, 2014

Opening weekend now looms large, as we look forward to squaring off against the last two national champions. We play tournament host Indiana on Friday night at 8 p.m. in a rematch of the 2012 national championship game. We will then turn right around and play the reigning national champions, and top-ranked team in the country, Notre Dame, on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Continue reading

Converging on Campus

August 7th, 2014

Two of our players have been honored ahead of the season by being named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List. Junior forward Brandon Allen and sophomore defender Joshua Yaro are both part of the 32-player list, which names the national player of the year at season’s end. Continue reading

The fact that we ended with a 14-5-2 record, won the Big East regular season title and earned the #6 overall seed for the NCAA tournament was a real tribute to the players and to the senior leadership in particular. It was a real pleasure to coach this group. Continue reading

Advancing to the Sweet 16

November 27th, 2013

I like to say that a good season means that you qualify for the NCAA tournament, and a great season means that the team is spending Thanksgiving together. By beating an excellent Old Dominion team, 3-0, in the second round last Sunday, the boys will get to do exactly that. Continue reading

Getting Ready for Senior Day

November 3rd, 2013

We’ll need all hands on deck for our season finale, and senior day, this Friday against a very talented Villanova squad. We still are contending for the Big East regular season title, and have assured ourselves of a top four finish regardless of all the scenarios going into next weekend. Hopefully we can send our seniors out with one final regular season win. Continue reading

A Shutout Record

October 29th, 2013

Marquette has established itself as one of the top teams in the country, and I feel they have the best team this year of any I’ve coached against. With the prize being first place in the Big East with two games to play, the table was set for another Georgetown and Marquette classic. I don’t think it disappointed. Continue reading

A Businesslike Performance

October 25th, 2013

The midweek match up with DePaul turned into a comfortable three points, as the boys put in a businesslike performance to come away with a 6-0 win. While not the best soccer we played all year, we were patient against a team that tried to sit in and make spaces compact. Continue reading

A Great Response

October 22nd, 2013

As a coach, it’s always interesting to see how a team responds to a loss. Another loss can be seen as the beginning of a slump, and a win can be a sign of resilience. After we had to marinate in a loss for a full week, the boys responded with arguably our best performance of the season. Continue reading

Time For A Water Break!

October 15th, 2013

The college soccer season comes at you so fast, that only having one game this week feels as needed as ever, and the timing for us is perfect. After falling to a determined Xavier team 2-1 in Cincinnati on Saturday night we find ourselves with a squad nursing three concussions and one broken arm. Continue reading
